The Responsible Gambling Commission The Responsible Gambling Commission has information to help youth (12-18) and young adults (18-24) understand gambling addiction. It’s similar to what you can find in our Curriculum, including information on what gambling is, what happens in the brain when you gamble, who is at risk of gambling addiction, signs of a gambling addiction, and how to seek help for yourself or others.

The California Council on Problem Gambling The California Council on Problem Gambling has Frequently Asked Questions about gambling for teens and advice on what to do if you’re concerned about a parent’s or friend’s gambling.

New York Council on Problem Gambling: Know the Odds Know the Odds was developed by the New York Council on Problem Gambling to provide information to family members. We recommend the Navigating a Loved One’s Gambling free online course that aims to help families navigate conversations about gambling behavior in a way that is more productive. Know the Odds also has free ebooks for in-depth information about problem gambling. (Note: we find the courses and ebooks work better in the Chrome browser)

Healthy Gamer Healthy Gamer was founded by Dr. Alok Kanojia, a Harvard-trained addiction psychiatrist specializing in modern mental health as a way to provide resources to a generation that is struggling with mental health and healthy gaming habits. While the tools are only available for purchase, the Healthy Gamer YouTube channel offers free videos on these topics (caution: some videos are more appropriate for an older audience).

Washington Teen Health Hub Explore the Washington Teen Health Hub for trusted health information on topics such as dating, healthcare access, mental and behavioral health, sexual health, and whole body health.

Washington Teen Link Teen Link is a talk and chat helpline by teens, for teens. Open 7 days a week from 6pm to 10pm, callers can get advice and support from trained youth volunteers. Teen Link also has a large map of resources for teens in Washington, which includes where to find help for problems such as domestic violence, eating disorders, STI testing, and much more.

The website includes Parenting Tip Sheets, podcast episodes, and a library of their Ask the Experts webinars.

GambleAware GambleAware is a non-profit located in Great Britain that provides rigorously researched reports, tools, and support. Its Resources for Professionals page is helpful for anyone working in an advice-giving role in a professional setting such as health and social care workers, teachers, and youth workers. It includes a lesson pack for exploring risk in relation to gambling for elementary school students, which may have to be adapted to an American school audience.

The Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme The Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme is based in Scotland and provides free online trainings for teachers, youth workers, health practitioners, parents and guardians, gambling operators, university staff, community and faith leaders, and social workers. While there are some expected differences between the UK and US gambling landscape, many topics such as gaming and gambling harms, mental health and wellbeing, and how to stop signs of harm are applicable to all.

Digital Well-Being Lessons for Grades K–12 | Common Sense Education Common Sense Education has created free K-12 lessons plans for educators wanting to discuss digital wellbeing in classrooms. Lessons include presentation slides, activities, handouts, and take-home resources for families. Elementary school lesson plans meet the standards for Common Core ELA, ISTE, CASEL, and AASL.
